This off Peter Black's blog and it got me thinking: Some nice observations from Cole Moreton in the Independent on Sunday about Wales on what should be a National holiday. Ok, I know it is a Sunday but you know what I mean. We need a bank holiday to celebrate and commemorate our national day:The Welsh are not the Irish, mind. There will be a small parade in Cardiff, Leeks and daffodils will be worn, and drink no doubt taken, but celebrations for St David never get as grand as they do for St Patrick. This may not be surprising. David was an aristocrat from the west coast, who became head of the church. And that's about it. He didn't wrestle a dragon like St George. He didn't come to a grisly end like St Andrew. He didn't drive out any snakes like St Patrick. His greatest miracle was that the ground rose up while he was talking, so people could hear him better. It's a church administrator's kind of miracle. Not exactly inspirational. Yes! I agree he was quite a bore what with being against booze and not up to taking on a foursome with three Irish Virgins. So what about making Pelagius an alternative Welsh Saint, but if we did where would we hold an annual parade, may be a counter Pelagius Protest Parade to tail behind the Dewi Day Parade or maybe get ahead of them before they reach the Lord Protectors 'Palace of Malice'? No! forget all these Christians, just look what they've done to Cymru? Me thinks it is time to go PAGAN, Celtic Pagan of course. More to follow on this in due course.
